MOT REMINDER SERVICE LAUNCHED

A test version of a new government service has launched to remind drivers by text message and email when their MOT is due.

The GOV.UK service, developed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), makes it easy to get a reminder every year when your vehicle’s MOT is due.
When you sign up, you’ll get a reminder:
  • 4 weeks before your MOT is due
  • 2 weeks before your MOT is due, if you still haven’t had it tested
You’ll also get alerts that your vehicle no longer has an MOT.
You just need the vehicle’s number plate (registration number) and a mobile phone number or email address.
You’ll get a reminder every year until you unsubscribe.
Research by DVSA has revealed that around 28% of cars will be overdue at any one time. Most of these are down to drivers forgetting to get it done, rather than deliberately avoiding having the test done.
If you drive a vehicle without a valid MOT, you’re breaking the law. The only exceptions are to drive it:
  • to or from somewhere to be repaired
  • to a pre-arranged MOT test
You’re also risking your own life and the lives of your passengers and other road users.
You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.

FUNDING SCOTLAND NOW BETTER AND FASTER

Funding Scotland now better and faster
Find funding for your charity, community group or social enterprise using our free online search engine. From small grants to funding for big capital projects, we can help you track down the funding you need to make a difference in your community.
Funding Scotland  http://www.fundingscotland.com  is now faster and returns better search results. We've recently upgraded the free funding search website to include a number of improvements and enhancements.

After listening to user feedback and using the results of last year's survey we've made improvements that will make searching more effective, faster and more user friendly.

Apart from looking just a bit cleaner and more professional there are lots of new features to enjoy:
  • The most recently updated funds appear on the search page
  • Using keywords and search terms is much more powerful meaning you will often just need to plug a term like “grants for music for young people” to find what you’re looking for
  • Advanced filters are still there but they’re organised a bit better
  • Fund information is presented in a clearer way with more information than before
  • There are FAQs to help you use the search and to find further information on funding
And, most importantly, the annoying quirks of the old search have gone!

The upgrade has also allowed us to develop new products with extra features that we’ll be announcing soon.

For existing users, although things will look a bit different, accessing the site should be the same as before, using the same login information.

We hope you’ll go and take a look at the new Funding Scotland search soon, there’s a lot to like. We'd also welcome any feedback at fundingscotland@scvo.org.uk

The above information was published in the LAYC e-bulletin on 15 July 2016.
